Please take this as constructive critism. And maybe my monitor colors are all off (or yours). Cause from my POV the grimness is significatly hindered by how "pink" it looks. I much prefered yesterday's colors.
If I didn't want criticism, I wouldn't put it up on a public blog. :) You're right--too pink. I've replaced it with a darker version, although I'm not totally satisfied with the colours yet.
How can I say, "more cowbell"? Even with what you've done, it looks far too pristine, especially the font - that does look indeed like it's just been text-boxed on top of the graphic.
I'd still play around with a few photoshop filters and see what happens. You'd be surprised how a little artistic filtering can make disparate elements blend together.
No not suggest blurring. Perhaps enlarging the type so it doesn't fit so perfectly inside the sun image. I am assuming you are using Illustrator or something similar. I would enlarge then maybe try an outline of the same color as the background.
I didn't want to get too fiddly specific about it but wanted you to see the little bit of disconnect between your container and your type. I am a graphic designer in RL and love to see these types of posts.
I'm definitely appreciating the feedback and suggestions so far. I spent a couple of frustrtaing hours yesterday getting nothing I wanted, but I'm back with a fresh mind today.
Nice start. My only criticism would be the disconnect between your text and graphic. Right now it's just pasted on top.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't a dying sun be more orangey, browny red rather than lilac/fuschia?

ReplyDelete@Anonymous--are you thinking that the text should be blurred too? Hmn, I hate having to squint.
ReplyDelete@Daniel--I don't know what colour a dying sun should be really. I guess I think that it would be a dark crimson.

My suggestion would be to go for a dark center, and to add a little orange to the red. I've done a quick recoloration to illustrate what I mean:

On photoshop filters in general, I've always been told to avoid lens flares.
